Time to job hunt again. I’ve added videos of the games I have been working on, as well as the more interesting projects I have completed in classes and independent study. My resume can be found on the ‘About’ page.

I hope to update this more regularly as I do more research on my thesis topic (that section is a little sparse at the moment…) and begin to write my survey of probabilistic planning for video game environments.

Back to school

So I’m finally back at school - I’m working on my Masters at Digipen Institute of Technology. Yep, video game school. So far it’s been pretty tuf. Lots of math that I haven’t seen for a while and concurrent programming assignments. It’s like having 4 bosses. But, I like it.

After my admin page mysteriously became a totally blank page, I decided to try the upgrade. It’s pretty nice! There are a lot of new little usability features, like adding categories right from the write screen, that save time. MyNetflix seems to work well too, although to get the images to work for all of the movies I had to add/change:

$movie_id_start_position = strpos($link, “movieid=”) + 8;
+ >> $movie_id_end_position = strpos($link, “&trkid=”);
+ >> $movie_id_length = $movie_id_end_position - $movie_id_start_position;

- >> $movie_id = substr($link, $movie_id_start_position, 8);
+ >> $movie_id = substr($link, $movie_id_start_position, $movie_id_length);

…in netflix.php cause the movieid length isn’t always 8. so if your sick of these…

install CentOS on VMWare 5.5

CentOS can’t find the virtual drive with the default settings. for it to work:

choose linux->other linux 2.6 kernal
advanced setup
LSI disc logic
choose IDE instead of SCSI

Also:
without cd’s use alcohol 120% or something similar because VMWare can’t seem to change images. I saw some people had problems with the emulated clock and I’m sure the power saving features on my laptop won’t help… so we’ll see how that goes.

UPDATE: whatever you do, don’t remove python with yum, because it removes just about everything else you need (including yum). dOh!

Party, reef, fraser island

It’s been a long last few days. We went to a miami themed party that we were all a little over (well under really) dressed for. Some dude was dressed up as a Chips cop… (apperently when your this far away anything american will do) Anyway, a day or two later we went to the town 1770 and took a boat to an island in the great barrier reef which was just amazing. we saw lots of fish and a sea turtle. There were these ginormous clam things that probably could take a hand (or worse!), but luckily there weren’t any eels. Jeff and I got sunburnt pretty bad snorkeling all day. Phil has at least a whole show of crocodile hunter show impression around that, mating calls and all :/.

The next day, we drove down to frasier island and rented a 4×4. We saw an old shipwreck and went to Eli Creek (ha ha!). The whole island is basically a big sand dune covered in forest. We went toMakenzey Lake which was really cool. The water is crystal clear. Phil claims you can drink it (didn’t try it though:)) and the sand looks perfectly white. There are supposed to be a bunch of dingoes, but all we saw was a big-ass lizzard. Now we’re back and looking forward to some relaxing days at the beach and surfing.
